Planning for Pets
Our pets can truly be our best friends -
but what will happen if they outlive us?
It is important to name a caretaker for your pet, just in case. Some of our clients, particularly those with high-need pets, set aside financial resources to provide for their pets after they are gone. To make sure that these assets are used for their intended purpose, we have set up “Pet Trusts,” where an independent trustee ensures that the caretaker is seeing to the pet’s needs.
To avoid any conflict of interest, we structure it so any assets remaining at the pet’s death pass to someone other than the caretaker or trustee. Usually our clients like to choose a non-profit such as the humane society or other animal welfare organization.
If you would like to make sure your pets are cared for no matter what happens to you call one of our Memphis probate attorneys or Memphis estate planning attorneys, contact us today.
